UNDERSTANDING YOUR ATTRACTION
1 Kgs. 11:1-2
Now King Solomon loved many foreign women, along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women, from the nations concerning which the Lord had said to the people of Israel, “You shall not enter into marriage with them, neither shall they with you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods.” Solomon clung to these in love.
One silent quest in the heart of most Christian men today is to have nothing short of a beautiful girl for a date or as a wife. As for those already married to women not worthy of this status, they shy away from being seen in public with their women, without understanding what exactly a man's attraction to women should be.
Today that marriage is no longer based on divine leading but on attraction. God is very concerned about who you are attracted to, hence the reason behind his stern warning to his people, the Israelites because he knew that those to whom you are attracted, may not only eventually become your wife, but also strongly influence your life, including turning your heart away from Him, if all they consist of is physical beauty devoid of godly character and fear.
Affinity and marriage are two underrated but strong forces that has continued to overpower men in their choice for marriage partners. As great and wise as Solomon was, coupled with the love he demonstrated in wanting to please God, his attraction for beautiful but foreign women later influenced him otherwise. 1Kgs. 11:4.
Although everyone made by God is beautiful, what most men don't know is that beauty can be affected or enhanced by several factors. A lady's dress for instance, may make her look outstanding, while her hair style may make her lose marks. Unbelievably, even natural factors like time, season, age or mood can affect looks, EMOTIONAL DISTURBANCE has been said to cause pimples which can also underscore beauty. Therefore a discerning man should know how and what to look for in a woman as attraction.
God does not want us to focus on charms, beauty or attraction for marriage because although they are good, but when it comes to keeping a relationship or a home they fall flat. Again, most women who lack inner beauty, invest so much to polish their outside while they are so nasty on the inside, they could be very attractive on the outside but very ugly in character and emotions.
Indeed beauty is vain because it fades, it doesn't last, it's a matter of time, twenty, thirty or forty years after, looking back, you won't believe what became of beauty. So a wise man is he who has come to know that outward beauty is nothing but a function of inward beauty. If you are beautiful inside, it makes you attractive on the outside.
Men therefore must not be overwhelmed by what they see outside, physical attraction must never be the basis of desiring or wanting to stay with a woman. We must look for inner beauty, which in the sight of God is of great value. 1Pet. 3:3
POINT OF MEDITATION
Whatever attracts you, can also distract you. Since physical beauty is so powerfully attractive, failure to understand your attraction, could sooner or later destroy you.
